| Beschreibung | Bandini had been showing signs of a lack of concentration for some laps before he finally struck the wall in the chicane on lap 82. His car slid across the track and crashed heavily into the hay-bales on the left side of the track. The car turned over on its side and burst into flames. Bandini sadly died from his burns, in hospital three days later. There was much discussion whether his life could have been saved if the marshalling would have been better.
